Mt. Potosi fire and smoke blanket Las Vegas sky

A wildfire began burning west of Mt. Potosi on Thursday, pouring a large amount of smoke into the sky over the Las Vegas valley. The Sandy Valley Fire was first reported around 1:34 p.m. near Sandy Valley Road, just off State Route 160 west Mt. Potosi, multiple officials said.

A proposed change to the grading system in the Clark County School District passed through the first vote held by trustees on Thursday. The Board of Trustees voted to approve a notice of intent to amend CCSD’s grading, part of the school district’s five-year strategic plan.
